Building on the success of my 2025 goal-setting (I write them at the top of my day-to-day to do list and check them off as I go) and building on my reflecting on my goals in my last post, I present….my 2026 goals 🙂
- Present at 5 community conferences. I’m still working on arranging this, but I have plans for at least 4, and these emerge over time anyway so I have confidence in this goal.
- Submit 6 papers for review. This is to make up for (lol) missing last year’s number, and instead of ‘publish’ I’m orienting this towards submission since I have more control over finishing work than I do over anyone accepting that work :). I have enough in-progress work and some plans with students that make this doable but a stretch.
- Build research network via service work. I plan to fulfill this goal by means of peer reviews and by serving as the research co-chair of Wiki Workshop; this one seems like a lock :).
- Language proficiency to early B1 (60-79). I now have a sense of how fast one can make progress through the free tier of the green owl app; I made 15 points of progress last year, and I will push to double that this year; I think this is highly doable because I worked a bit harder on it in December and made 3 points of progress.
- Read 50 books. It’s a good goal, even though I don’t seem to get there — I’ve had this as a goal for a while, and although I do think setting it as a goal helps, keeping a running list helps more…so I need to get back into that habit. One thing that helped with my other 4 goals last year is that I made a habit to do regular goal-checks — so baking the goal check into my habits (and with it the list-updating) is my go-to approach for this coming year.
Here’s to a joyful and productive 2026!
